About Nagasaki
Nagasaki, Japan
japan

"Japan": what does that word bring to mind? On the one hand, probably images that run from Mount Fuji to the world of Geishas, including of course cars, electric appliances and computers. On the other hand, maybe images of an island nation filled with volcanoes and hot springs, gifted with a multitude of traditional arts & crafts and many other cultural treasures.
Within all that, our beloved Nagasaki stands proudly, gifted with a very unique coastline and a mild climate, boasting irresistible hot springs and, thanks to the strong current of its seas, some of the very best seafood in the country. No wonder, than, that it is renowned as a first-rate tourist destination.

History
dejima Know something about history? During the 250 years-long Japanese Isolation Period promulgated in 1641, Nagasaki acted as the only window to the rest of the world thanks to its trade port. An indirect effect of that policy was to endow the region with a unique culture; traditional Nagasaki arts, crafts and foods are all renowned for their touch of exoticism, and the city's landscape is a notable mixture of Japanese, European and Chinese styles.

Although Western sciences and technology were introduced to Japan through Nagasaki, an ironic and sad twist of history caused the city to suffer from an atomic bomb during World War II. Since that tragedy, Nagasaki has engaged earnestly in a global effort to achieve world peace. For all these reasons and many others, Nagasaki occupies a special place in Japanese people's hearts. Even to this day, it is perceived as a land of exoticism, hospitality and peace.
