Nagasaki City in a day

This course will take you to the set of Puccini's "Madam Butterfly", make you feel the intensity of Nagasaki's appeal for world peace, and give you a chance to familiarize yourself with the Dutch's "Dejima", a tiny man-made island that flourished as Japan's only open window to the outside world during the national isolation period (1641-1859). Also, thanks to the unique historical relationship that has bonded China and Nagasaki for almost five centuries, enjoy the typical ambiance in Chinatown, and of course, the local cuisine. Talking about food, what a great way to learn about the Portuguese, Chinese and Dutch's legacy in Nagasaki! Finally, at night, hop on the ropeway, get on top of Mt. Inasa, and surely you'll understand why Nagasaki is famous for its night view.

Nagasaki City over two days

If staying over is an option for you, it is definitely the one you want to go for. On your second day, enjoy an unforgettable walk (picture time!) in "Tera-machi (Temple town)", have a close look at that mysterious Spectacles Bridge (built by a Chinese Buddhist monk in 1634), hike up all the way to the Suwa Shrine, and on your way back, drop by the Twenty-Six Martyrs Hill for a little history on Christianity in Japan


From Nagasaki City to Unzen and Shimabara over two days

After having visited Nagasaki City, this course will take you to Unzen National Park which, in the 19th century, was a favorite summer resort among foreign residents in Shanghai, Hong Kong and Manila because of its splendid natural environment and numerous hot springs. Afterwards, the next stop is Shimabara, the "City of Water", a former castle town that still keeps the atmosphere of the old feudal days.
From here, you can have a peak at Mount "Heisei Shinzan (new mountain)", which erupted in 1991, causing major damage to the city.


Hirado, the picturesque island in a day

Formerly a castle town of the Matsuura clan, Hirado flourished as a port for trade between the clan and China, Portugal, Spain, England and Holland. It was here that the first trading post of the Dutch East India Company opened in 1609 with the assistance of William Adams, the trusted advisor to Ieyasu who was highlighted as a hero in the best seller "Shogun" by James Clavell.
